NAACP Youth Council
The mission of the NAACP Youth & College Division shall be to inform youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities; to advance the economic, education, social and political status of African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities and their harmonious cooperation with other peoples; to stimulate an appreciation of the African Diaspora and other people of color’s contribution to civilization; and to develop an intelligent, militant effective youth leadership.
Phoenix
African American Men of Arizona State University
Coordinated by the African American Men of Arizona State University (AAMASU), the High School-to-College (H2C) Program is an early outreach initiative that focuses on increasing the recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of African American male college and high school students. The program offers a variety of services including college prep workshops and mentoring to high schools students and their parents in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area in an effort to prepare the students for a successful college experience.
Black Family and Child Services of Arizona (BCSF)
Empower families to meet the economic, social and emotional challenges of daily living and to improve their quality of life. Enable youths to develop positive aspirations and motivation and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to become productive, self-sufficient adults. Act as an advocate for children and families so their needs, hopes and aspirations are heard and understood by the larger community. Take a leadership role in working toward solutions for social, economic and educational problems that threaten the well being of children and youth. Develop working partnerships with public institutions, private corporations and community organizations, agencies and individuals to ensure that children and youth have the opportunity, encouragement and support to become responsible, productive and self-sufficient adults.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix (BGCMP) has a very proud and triumphant history. In 1946, the BGCMP opened its first two Clubs in the Valley. Today, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix provides services to more than 32,250 boys and girls annually, operating a total of 12 clubhouses throughout the central and west area Valley, a full-service dental clinic and outreach services.
Chad Groth Children’s Foundation
The program admits youth ages 8 through 18 of all backgrounds. The Youth All-Stars Program provides urban kids in metropolitan communities across America an opportunity to become youth All-Stars. All-Stars take part in weekly activities held at local area parks, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA’s and local area school facilities. The All-Stars program gives high achieving urban young people a program that boosts their potential to even higher levels and youth at risk an opportunity to change their lives. The program will be expanded to serve additional metropolitan areas beginning year two.
COMPUGIRLS
COMPUGIRLS is a culturally relevant technology program for adolescent (grades 8-12) girls from under-resourced school districts in the Greater Phoenix area. Supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, COMPUGIRLS provides fun summer and after-school classes where participants learn the latest technologies in digital media, games, and virtual worlds and become a voice for social justice and change in the world.
Future Stars, Inc.
The organization primarily serves underprivileged students who have been identified by school officials as “At-Risk” and those students who have a desire to learn computer technology and/or a desire to play intercollegiate sports.
Sigma Beta Club
The purpose for the Sigma Beta Club is many. The Club, being an organization for young male students, gives them an opportunity to meet with each other on a regular basis outside the school atmosphere to discuss their interest and problems. The Club also gives its members a chance to meet with college and professional men on a regular basis; therefore, exposing the membership to various viewpoints of educational advancements.
Young G.E.M.S
Inspired by an opportunity to offer empowered and conscious change for the next generation, Joyful Transformations, Inc. designed this program for young girls ages 10-12* from all community, cultural, and financial backgrounds. It ends with a ceremony to celebrate the completion of this stage in their lives, the transition into the next and the overall accomplishments of each young girl.
Youth At Risk
Phoenix Youth at Risk transforms the lives of at-risk youth by providing a foundation of mentoring and curriculum that helps them build positive, goal-oriented futures.
